Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a session take?

Appointments are available in 30, 45 & 60 minute slots. If it is your first session you will need to complete a full consultation with your sports massage therapist to discuss your medical history and undertake a brief physical exam. Once this is completed, you will receive a massage session for the remainder of the time booked. For the first appointment a full hour will be needed in order to complete the consultation.

What happens during a sports massage session?

As all clients are treated individually, what happens during your session can vary from each person. Firstly, your posture and range of movement will be tested to find any problem areas. If you come with a specific injury, a number of specific tests will be conducted to pinpoint where the problem is and what techniques will be effective in helping to relieve the problem. Once areas are identified, your massage will begin. When your massage is complete, advice, with the aid of a program, will be given to you which will include stretches and exercises to help stop the problem recurring.

Will it be painful?

Massage should not be painful, however Sports Massage can sometimes be deep which can cause some discomfort. This is likely when any adhesions or areas of tenderness are found within the muscle. It is necessary in these instances to apply adequate pressure to the area in order to reduce these adhesions and aid recovery. Soreness can also be experienced 24 hours after treatment. This is normal and will usually subside quickly.

Will I have to disrobe?

Depending on the treatment required, you will be required to disrobe, either fully or partially. For example, a full body massage would require all outer clothing to be removed but for a back massage only the top half of clothing would need to be removed. Clients' dignity is very important to us and you will be covered at all times with towels, except for the area being treated.
